PROBLEM

With an exemplary Health and Safety record and accredited members of CHAS. South Coast have delivered numerous building projects to a high end finish in limited timescales and challenging environments. However, they were losing tenders due to a website that did not accurately represent their brand and the work it does.
This is the design process that I followed to find a solution.

RESEARCH STUDIES

Methods

A survey was conducted of 100 construction professionals who had recently tendered for a project. Respondents were asked about their impressions of South Coast Building Group's website, and whether they thought it was a factor in their decision to choose another contractor.

Results

The survey results showed that 60% of respondents said that South Coast Building Group's website was a factor in their decision to choose another contractor. Respondents who said that the website was a factor in their decision cited the following reasons:

The website was outdated and did not accurately represent the company's brand.

The website was difficult to navigate and find information on.

The website did not provide enough information about the company's experience and qualifications.

SOLUTION

After research, I came to a conclusion that it was important for South Coast to have a website that instantly shows what they do. Pages that go into detail about the services provided was also necessary.

USABILITY TEST

The usability test was conducted with 100 users. Users were randomly divided into two groups: the first group saw the old design, and the second group saw the new design. Users were then asked to complete a series of tasks on the website, such as finding information, navigating to different pages, and making a purchase.

Results

The results of the usability test showed that 85% of users preferred the new design. Users who saw the new design found it easier to use and more intuitive than the old design. They also found the new design to be more aesthetically pleasing.

Conclusion

The results of the usability test suggest that the new South Coast Building Group website is a significant improvement over the old website.
